Envisioned by Charles Sellers and launched in the jungles of Belize where he grew up with the Maya. This project will educate, train and employee many of Charles' childhood Mayan friends, so this in effect creates a full circle of understanding and preservation of both ancient and modern Maya cultural heritage's because the modern Maya will be discovering and researching the ancient sites and data that their very ancestors created and left behind a millennia ago. Full circle just like the concept of zero"0" which the Maya unlike any other culture understood and understood well. This is where zero"0" in Imagine Dark 0 comes from, but the Maya concept of zero"0" is still very much in the dark and hidden in the jungles like much of their advanced knowledge waiting to be discovered. Imagine Dark 0 also represents December 21st, which is the most important day and also day zero on all Maya calendars. (This day also has special meaning to Charles, but he won't tell anyone why). On December 21st 2012 when the Maya long count calender ended, we on Earth finally had a long awaited and clear view of the dark center of our galaxy, which is actually a black hole called Sgr A*, known to the Maya as Hunab Ku,  is also the gateway to the underworld, called Xibalba by the Maya. This prophesied day was a dark mystery with the concept of zero attached and could only be calculated, observed and imagined by the ancient Maya. This may seem like a complicated way to name an organization, but it pays homage to the mysteriously dark and sophisticated complexity that makes up the Maya universe. IMAGINE DARK 0 will employ, educate and train the local Maya how to operate LiDAR, how to use the software to process the data, how to operate and fly commercial drones including any licensing that is required. We might accept donations in the future and we will soon be creating crowdfunding page for this.
